Biography of Candidate for President of Republic Armen Sarkissian

Armen Sarkissian was born on June 23, 1953 in Yerevan. He is married, has two sons.

Education

In 1970 he finished Yerevan N 114 Secondary School.

In 1976 he graduated from Yerevan State University, Faculty of Physics.

In 1978 he became Post-graduate of YSU Chair of Theoretical Physics.

Candidate of Physics and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor

Work experience

In 1976-1990 he gave lectures at Faculty of Physics of Yerevan State University, and Founder of the Mathematical Modelling Department of Complex Systems of YSU Theoretical Physics.

From 1984 to1985 he was a Lecturer and a Research Fellow at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Cambridge

In 1984-1985 he had research work, gave lectures and worked in Moscow State University, in the Scientific Institutions and Universities of Germany, United States of America, Greece, the United Kingdom.

In 1991-1996 he was Charges d’Affaires of Armenia to the United Kingdom, then Ambassador to the RA.

From 1991 to 1999 - he was Senior Ambassador to Europe, the RA Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Vatican, Head of the RA Mission to the EU.

In 1996-1997 he was Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.

In 1998-1999 he was re-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the UK and Vatican.

In 2000-2013 he served as Senior Adviser to the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Founder President of Eurasia House International and the Founder and Director of Cambridge University Eurasian Centre, Founder of the Annual Eurasian Media Forum Founder, Founder of the Annual Influential Conference of Cambridge University Business-School, Chairman of Davos Energy Security Global Council of the World Economic Forum, Co-Chair of the East West Institute, Co-Chair of the Euro-Atlantic Security Initiative (EASI) Committee (Chairman of the Energy Security).

Founder Chairman of the British-Armenian All-Party Parliamentary Group, Member of the Global Leadership Foundation Board, Member of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Member of the Harris School of Public Policy Studies, University of Chicago, Trustee of John Smith Trust, Member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union Board, Founder of Yerevan My Love Benevolent Foundation, etc.

In 2000-2013 Chief Advisor of Alcatel, Lucent, Telefonica British Petroleum, Merrill Lynch-Bank and other international companies.

Awards

In 2017 he was awarded 1st Degree Order for the Services Rendered to the Motherland.

In 2008 he was awarded Saint Grigor Lusavorich Order by the Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Karekin II.

In 1997 he was awarded the Order of Saint Gregory the Great by His Holiness John Paul II.

He is the author of numerous academic articles and publications in the sphere of theoretical physics, astronomical-physics, computer modelling, political science and transitional economy. He is Honourable Doctor of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

He has diplomatic degree of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
